Build a sequence of matching characters

The challenge is to keep finding useful matches as the play area changes. A newly merged character takes a different place in the sequence, so look again before making the next drop. Recognizing matching faces matters more than dropping as quickly as possible.

Choose a target before placing a piece

Find a matching character and check whether the incoming piece can reach it. Another character may block an apparently simple match. When that happens, consider a more open landing area instead of adding another piece to an already crowded spot.

Give each drop time to settle

The arrangement can change after contact. Pause long enough to see the result of a drop and any merge it produces. This keeps your next decision based on the actual arrangement, rather than the position of pieces that are still moving.

Use the score as feedback

Try a short run focused on careful placement, then compare it with a run in which you release pieces quickly. Watch which choices leave more matching opportunities. A useful improvement is one you can repeat, such as consistently keeping a route open to a matching character.
